Personal Connection!
As a twelve year old girl, who’s is just 5 days away from becoming a teenager, I can totally relate to this book. Many teens in middle school care so much about their looks. Yeah, you wouldn't want to look disheveled or wearing clothes completely out of style, but this isn’t the Miss Universe contest. Even if you are pretty, it's not going to win you an award in middle school. Everyone is pretty and unique in their own way. I’m not saying that you shouldn’t have self confidence, I’m just trying to say that be confident but don’t let it go way too out of hand for our age! Just like in the book Uglies by Scott Westerfeld, Tally was so desperate into becoming a pretty, she sneaked into the New Pretty Town, then she made drastic choices to betray her friend Shay. All of this relates to making decisions in middle school life. Sometimes it’s not the best idea to compare yourself to others, because sometimes, people may get their feelings hurt, people might start feeling insecure and many more things.
Being a sixteen year old girl who’s ugly, while all her other friends are pretties may be hard to live with, but after running away with Shay, finding all of her secrets and then betraying her was a huge affect on Tally’s life and the true importance of friendship was lost. The meaning of friendship holds the word trust, and without it, it doesn’t matter if your sixteen, twelve, or thirteen, it will definitely affect your choices after that and could be very life changing to your future world!
